MY FIRST BIG MISTAKE - A 'MASH' FOR SURE
So, we had the corner of a wall cut out a couple weeks ago and it's not finished yet, which is another story that I can't tell until we have an ending to the story. Anyway, part of that wall being changed a little included plans to make a doorway opening larger.
When R cut the drywall away, we realized that there is a load bearing header above the doorway and although we have no idea why the original builder placed it so low, it's there to stay....bummer.
We still had an option to widen the doorway but stupid me...yes, stupid me...said I thought the door might look funny being made wider but not taller.
Well, big mistake!!!!!
I usually play with pictures in adobe photoshop so I can visualize better, but I was so overwhelmed with the many projects we have going on that I never got around to creating a fake opening using adobe photoshop before the contractor showed up to do the work.
I said NO before I saw it on adobe photoshop so the contractor left the doorway opening alone.
After I played with the picture below, I realized it would have looked just fine.
I am debating on whether to try to fix the mistake now by finding out from the contractor how much time & money it would take to remove the drywall he already installed and widen the opening. There might be an issue with the header still so it might not work without a huge hassle, but this is the time to fix it or it will be a matter of "forever holding our peace".
Here are the two openings:
left is how it is now.... right is widened (thanks to adobe photoshop)
