Let me first say that the bid from a professional painter to paint our entryway, living and family room was $3500.00. That does NOT include the wainscoting. Wainscoting is an additional fee.
We have always painted ourselves, however have never painted 18' ceilings and walls.
Boy were we naive. I still think $3500. is a little much, but we know now why the price is up there.
Our house hasn't been painted in 20 years. The thinned out, flat, contractor paint is what is still on our entire house. We decided to prime the walls first not to cover the color, but for the walls to suck in primer and not as much paint. Well, it sucked in the primer and it also sucked in alot of the first coat of paint.
This was the beginning of 3, yes 3, coats of paint on all the 18' ceilings.
1 - Primer coat
2 - paint and primer mix
3 - paint and primer mix
Little did we know at this point how long this was going to take.
We were going to attend a Neil Diamond cover band concert in a couple weeks, so we decided to listen to Neil Diamond as we painted so we could learn the words.
To be truthful, it was my idea, not Rick's, but he went along with it.
Now for the hard part...painting and then "laying it off" so there are no ridges and it's an even coat.
It takes us 1.5 hours to clean the paint loading machine, so here I sit waiting for the 1st coat to dry so we can start the 2nd of 3 coats on the ceiling.
