WOW...it's been a long time since the last post!

Sorry for the scary ghost town of a blog.
So, here's the rundown of events since I last posted:
  • Recieved the very sad news that our dog will have to be put to sleep due to a degenerative back desease that is affecting the use of her back legs and she's in extreme pain. The vet suggested morphine and muscle relaxers to keep her out of pain which will give us a little more time with her.
  • Meds have added a little spunk in my dog's steps so we are very grateful for every minute we get with her.
  • Son was in car accident in another state (where he's going to college). Not his fault. He was injured in the accident and his car was totaled. WHAT A MESS!
  • The very next week, I had to travel to CA because my Mom had emergency heart and gallbladder surgery.
  • Flew son to California to see his grandma and to help him sort out the "accident" issues.
  • Daughter had huge crisis back home while I was with my mom in California.
  • My mom is out of surgery, but having a slow recovery. I flew back home with my son.
  • 2 weeks later, traveled back to CA for 30th high school reunion...which was SOOO fun!
  • The day after coming home from a great week in California with our high school classmates, Rick's sister, a very special spiritual mentor, and my college roommates, we had to put our sweet dog to sleep. So, so, so incredibly hard.
For 12.5 years Lexi ran with me, played soccer with the kids in the backyard, she tried to "herd" my kids and my niece and nephew, she allowed my daughter to dress her up in many, many outfits, she listened to all of us when we had a problem and didn't want to talk to a human about it, and she wrestled with my son and nobody else. When Rick came home from work, she would not leave him alone until he sufficiently and exuberantly said HI to her which always included her on the bed jumping up to his shoulders and then laying down completely stretched out while Rick scratched her back and belly. LEXI decided when Rick sufficiently said hello and could get on with his evening.
She made me laugh, she kept me from being lonely, and she followed me everywhere I went for 12 1/2 years. In the last 2 months, I hugged her tighter, I looked at her longer, and I spent more time remembering what her coat felt like and how warm she felt sitting next to me. I'm glad I had 2 more months with her...and I miss her so much.

Here are just a few pictures of my sweet soft-coated wheaten terrier, Lexi.

Lexi 9 weeks old!

Thorns may hurt you,
men desert you,
sunlight turns to fog,
but you're never friendless ever,
if you have a dog!

Rest in peace my little Lexi girl.
