Kitchen and wood demolition

Our cabinets came in Oct 23rd and the plan was to have the flooring complete by then. Well, it wasn't.  We were already behind schedule and our appliances and cabinets were being stored at their perspective warehouses while we hoped that our project would finally start.

The arrangement with the contractor was that we would do all the demolition that we could do, do all prep work, and clean up so that the contractor would only have to "work" when he came to the house.  We thought that would speed up the process and keep the machine working.

Here's the kitchen before total demo started:

With Island.....

It felt really good to take that island out.  It was a monstrosity in the kitchen and I'm sure it was very cool at one point, but it's glory days are long gone.  So much yellowish wood too. Yikes.

Without island:

With the island gone, it was time to get rid of the floor.  And R was very happy to help out.

Kitchen with almost no floor:

Kitchen subfloor with new coat of KILZ:

The kitchen floor was removed and then the family room floor.  We weren't sure where the contractor was going to start, so we stayed up til 3am finishing up painting Kilz on the kitchen and family room subfloors so the contractor could start wherever he wanted.  We were EXHAUSTED!

It's an understatement to say we were mad that the contractor didn't show up after we stayed up to 3am to finish the KILZing job specifically because he said he'd be there bright and early.
If he wasn't going to make it the next day, he could have told us the night before so we knew we had more time.  Turns out we had the entire weekend to paint Kilz on the flooring because he didn't come then either.

Over that long, mad weekend, we cleared out all the furniture in the living room too, pulled the carpet up and R had our daughter help pull the nails out of the floor.

We painted Kilz on the floor in that room too and now the house was completely ready for the flooring to be installed...so long as the contractor showed up.
