Happened 10/31/14, just blogged now.
Ahhhhh, the stairs.
After the flooring guy left, the contractor told me he thought what he saying would not work with the stairs and that he was wrong, so he continued the rest of day. The stair treads were just laying on the stair support but were not nailed in for the night. I was fine with that because we don't have children or a dog in the house right now, so we could handle one night being very careful going up and down the stairs.
That evening, I noticed that there was some trash that had fallen into the stairwell (old carpet pad, nails, wood, some carpet, etc.). I vacuumed as far back into the stairway as I could without moving the stair treads, but didn't want to actually move them with the contractor not at the house in case he had some system in place and didn't want them moved.
When he arrived the next morning, I told him first thing that I needed to clean out the rest of the stairwell and to call me when I could do that. He said, "ok".
I left for 30 minutes to NOT micro-manage and when I came back, all but 2 stair treads were installed. I just stared at the stairs and then mentioned to him I needed to get in there...and could I get in the top two stairs still uninstalled to get the trash out. He said there was no way at this point and then said, "I forgot" and kept moving along. Once again blowing me off.
This problem has now caused us to have to cut through drywall in perfect condition in the pantry and crawl through a 2 ft space in between the studs to get in to that space to pull the stuff out.
We will have repair and repaint the drywall ....all because he blew me off yet again. Talk about huge doubts and huge disappointments. Mind you....this is all while R was dealing with the most horrific event in his career...the high school shooting where 4 kids died and one was injured in addition to the shooter killing himself making it 5 deaths.
